I just discovered something that illustrates how easily variations in the spelling and forms of names can occur, even in contemporary sources.

John & Ann Jary. And John & Ann Jary.

Two headstones lie in St Margaret’s churchyard in Cley-Next-the-Sea, each shared by a husband & wife. Both husbands were named John Jary; both wives were named Ann.
