"In the year 1739 A very severe Frost w[hi]ch Lock[e]d all the Harbours in the Kingdo[m], render[e]d the Road by the Marsh-side leading from Clay to Glandford impassible (sic), there were hundreds of Loads of Ice t[h]rown into the Road by the Tides, Some Peices (sic) of Ice were more than 20 feet long and 8 or 10 feet Broad and 2 or 3 feet thick. A Surprising Sight!"
