Hi Michele,

Many thanks for your kind words about the site and for your very interesting information!

We've found records for 9 children of Andrew & Catherine: (dates are baptism / burial; all events at Stiffkey unless noted)
Thomas: 2 March 1777* Married Margaret Prior 30 Dec 1800.**
Elizabeth: 1 March 1778*
George: no baptism record found; buried 2 Jun 1781*
Amey: 29 Aug 1782** - 6 Jun 1787**
Mary: 29 Aug 1782** - 18 May 1783** (Amey & Mary were twins)
Lane: 14 Oct 1784** - 24 Sep 1858 (buried Blakeney)***
Mary: 15 Aug 1786**
Amey: 15 March 1789**
Jacob: 28 Oct 1792** - 3 Jun 1862.

We only knew about one marriage for Jacob b 1792; to Mary Davison on 23 Nov 1815 in Stiffkey. We have found records for the baptism of 7 children:

Richard: 7 Sep 1817**
William: 1 Apr 1819** - 16 Apr 1819** (Jacob's name is recorded as "Isaack" in the transcription of William's baptism record. However it is recorded as Jacob in William's burial record two weeks later.)
Sarah Ann: 27 Aug 1820** (<a href="http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/documents.php?district_id=23&document_id=4937" rel="nofollow">The Norfolk Transcription Archive</a> has an entry for a marriage between Sarah Ann Jary & Francis Baines in Stiffkey in 1842.)
Ann Rebecca: 3 Feb 1822** (<a href="http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/documents.php?district_id=23&document_id=4949" rel="nofollow">Norfolk Transcription Archive</a> has an entry for a marriage between Ann Rebecca Jary, 33, and Henry Futton, 27 of Morston, on 11 Aug 1855.)
Jacob: 16 May 1824**
Catherine: 19 March 1826** - 21 Aug 1826**
Elizabeth: 27 Apr 1828**
(As well as the above, the <a href="http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/documents.php?district_id=23&document_id=6750" rel="nofollow">Norfolk Transcription Archive</a> shows a Susanna, baptised 1816 Warham All Saints. Her parents could well have been a different Jacob & Mary, though.)

Since our source for these baptisms is a hand-written index to a modern transcription, it's possible we may have missed a child or two, as well as the first Mary's burial and Jacob's second marriage. There was a Mary Jary buried in Morston on 9 Jan 1811 (Morston Burials 1700-1812; NRO. Microfiche). Do you think that may have been Jacob's first wife?

Thank you as well for the info on Elizabeth's maiden name. There are a few trees on the internet that show this marriage, but the date I have seen was 1747, so I was very doubtful that it could have been the same William and Elizabeth. The date of 1737 is more in line with the baptism of their first child, however. It's quite a distance from Stiffkey, though, so I'd be curious about what made them move all that way. Have you been able to find anything on their families in Shipdham?

Thanks again for getting in touch!

A great web-site!
- Looking at your chart, my husband is descended from Andrew Jary and Catherine Warnes who were married on 30 September 1776 in Stiffkey (St. John the Baptist) and went on to have 10+ children, including twin girls.
- Their youngest son Jacob (b 28 Oct 1792) had two wives, both called Mary who both produced a firstborn son of each marriage, and very confusingly the two brothers were both called Jacob. The first marriage produced 3 children and the 2nd produced 5.
- Although I have found most of the childrens baptisms (St. Johns) cannot find the first Jacob's baptism (born 13 March 1807).
- This first Jacob married Marianne Sadler and they had 8 children including firstborn twin boys including yet another Jacob and a fourth child called Augustus Charles (13 Aug 1848).
- By this time most of the family were mariners but for some reason (which I think I have found by way of the Norfolk constabulary!) AC ran off and joined the Royal Artillery.
- Augustus Charles married Ellen Ryan in 1870 and they had 11 children during their travels to India and back with the army and including another set of twin boys.
- Their fourth born was also named Augustus Charles (b1878 in Portsea) and he was my husband's grandfather.
- He married Annie West on 7th Aug 1902 and they had 8 children also including twins, one of which was my husband's father.
- In this generation there have been no twins - at least not in this branch of the family!
By the way William's wife was Elizabeth Sherey and they were married on 20 Sep 1737 in Shipham.
Hope the above helps and congratulations on a brilliant web-site. If you need any more info, please let me know...
